Balaton Theatre

About

The Balaton Theatre (Balaton Színház) in Keszthely is the cultural heart of the town, a lively venue that blends modern performance spaces with a long tradition of community theatre. Originally established in the early 20th century and later rebuilt and expanded, it stands today as a bright, contemporary building just steps from the lakefront, hosting everything from classical drama to children’s performances and touring productions. Inside, the main attraction is the large auditorium, designed with excellent acoustics and comfortable sightlines, making it ideal for theatre, dance, and concerts. The foyer often hosts small exhibitions by local artists, adding a gallery‑like atmosphere before performances. Visitors can also explore the studio stage, a more intimate space used for experimental theatre, workshops, and youth programs. The theatre’s interior design is clean and modern, with warm lighting and subtle decorative elements that create a welcoming environment.
