The Théâtre Montreux Riviera is a small, independent theatre in the heart of Montreux, on the shores of Lake Geneva in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Since 1964 it has been housed in the vaulted cellar of the historic Maison Visinand on Rue du Pont, in the old Planches district above the lakeside promenade. The theatre occupies the “Caveau” of Maison Visinand, a traditional Bernese‑style building that now serves as a local cultural centre. The theatre lies only minutes from Montreux’s main tourist route. A brief descent leads to the lakeside promenade with its subtropical parks, the Freddie Mercury statue and the Casino Barrière, home to the Queen Studio Experience. The Auditorium Stravinski and the principal venues of the Montreux Jazz Festival are likewise close by, as are the covered market, boutique shops and cafés of central Montreux. A short walk along the shore brings visitors to Chillon Castle, the iconic medieval fortress on the lake, while boat and train connections from the town provide easy access to the Lavaux vineyards and other Riviera settlements.
