Memorialul Revoluției Timișoara is located on Strada Oituz in central Timișoara, just steps from Piața Victoriei. The museum occupies the building that served as headquarters for the revolutionary committee in December 1989, when Timișoara became the first Romanian city to rise against the communist regime. The location puts you right in the historic core of the city. Piața Victoriei stretches just north of the museum, flanked by the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral with its distinctive mosaic roof and the National Opera House where protesters first gathered. A short walk west brings you to Piața Unirii, the city’s baroque gem surrounded by pastel facades, the Roman Catholic Dome, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, and outdoor terraces. Nearby you can also visit Huniade Castle, the oldest monument in Timișoara and home to the National Museum of Banat. The restored Theresia Bastion is close by too, with art galleries and cafes set inside the old fortress walls. For a break, the Bega River promenade runs through the center and offers boat tours and shaded paths. The entire area is compact and easy to explore on foot, with restaurants and coffee shops linking all the main sights.
