Roses Park is one of Timișoara’s most beloved green spaces, famous for its long tradition of horticulture. Established in the early 20th century, it quickly became a showcase of rose cultivation, earning the city the nickname “The City of Roses.” An interesting fact is that the park once hosted international rose exhibitions, attracting botanists and gardeners from across Europe. Its layout was redesigned several times, but the core idea remained: a garden dedicated to colour, fragrance, and seasonal beauty. Inside, visitors can stroll along winding alleys bordered by hundreds of rose varieties, from classic red hybrids to delicate pastel species. The central pergola, covered in climbing roses, is a favourite spot for photos and quiet breaks. In summer, the park becomes a lively cultural venue, hosting open‑air concerts and theatre performances that blend naturally with the floral backdrop. Look for the themed rose beds, each arranged by colour or origin, offering a subtle lesson in botanical diversity. The mature trees surrounding the garden create a cool frame that makes the park pleasant even on hot days. Roses Park remains a romantic, fragrant corner of Timișoara, perfect for slow walks and moments of calm.

Location

Roses Park, or Parcul Rozelor, is located in central Timișoara along the northern bank of the Bega River, between Bulevardul Vasile Pârvan and Podul Michelangelo. It was established in 1928 and redesigned in 1934 for a World Rose Exhibition, and it remains one of the city’s most visited green spaces. The park covers several hectares and is known for its geometric flower beds, pergolas, and more than 600 varieties of roses that bloom from late spring through autumn. Alleys shaded by mature trees lead to fountains, sculptures, and an open-air summer theater that hosts concerts and festivals. The layout combines French-style gardens with relaxed lawns, making it a popular spot for walks, photos, and events. The location is right in the cultural and university area. Across the river is the Children’s Park, with playgrounds and family attractions. A short walk west along the Bega promenade takes you to the city center and Piața Victoriei, where the Romanian National Opera stands at one end and the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral at the other. From there you can reach Piața Libertății and Piața Unirii in a few minutes, home to the Roman Catholic Dome, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, and the National Museum of Art in the Baroque Palace. The Botanic Park is just north of Roses Park, offering themed plant collections and quiet paths. Huniade Castle and the Maria Theresia Bastion are also nearby in the Cetate district.
