Ptuj–Ormož Regional Museum occupies the medieval Ptuj Castle, a hilltop landmark overlooking Slovenia’s oldest town. The Ptuj–Ormož Regional Museum is located in Ptuj, Slovenia’s oldest recorded town. Its main collections are housed inside Ptuj Castle, which stands on a hill overlooking the Drava River and the terracotta rooftops of the old town. The museum preserves the cultural heritage of the Ptuj and Ormož regions through extensive exhibitions of archaeology, feudal arms and armor, musical instruments, traditional carnival masks known as kurenti, fine art, tapestries, and historic furniture. Walking through the castle’s rooms and courtyards is itself part of the visit, with views stretching across vineyards and the Ptuj plain. Nearby, the old town of Ptuj is just below the castle hill and invites exploration on foot. You can see the Roman Orpheus Monument in the central square, the Gothic Church of St. George, the Town Hall, and the Dominican Monastery, which also hosts museum exhibitions.
