Vukovar Municipal Museum

Vukovar Municipal Museum, housed in the restored Baroque Eltz Manor, is one of Croatia’s most compelling cultural institutions. Its story is inseparable from the city’s turbulent past: the manor was heavily damaged during the Homeland War, and many collections were destroyed or taken. After years of restoration and international cooperation, the museum reopened as a symbol of resilience and cultural continuity. Inside, visitors can explore more than 3,500 m² of exhibitions spread across historic salons and modern galleries. The permanent display covers archaeology, local history, fine arts, and ethnography, including remarkable finds from the nearby Vučedol archaeological site. One highlight is the Bauer Collection, one of the most complete overviews of Croatian modern art, featuring works by Bukovac, Medović, Meštrović and other major artists. Today, more than 1,400 works form a unique testament to cultural solidarity. Walking through Eltz Manor, visitors can admire restored Baroque interiors, historical furniture, portraits of the Eltz family, and thematic rooms illustrating everyday life in Vukovar across centuries.
