Provincial Institute for Nature Conservation

Natural History Collection of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Vojvodina offers one of Novi Sad’s most detailed windows into the region’s biodiversity. Though not a large museum, it is exceptionally rich in scientific material gathered over decades of field research. One of its most interesting facts is that many specimens come from conservation projects that helped protect Vojvodina’s wetlands, steppe habitats, and river ecosystems—making the collection both a scientific archive and a record of environmental recovery. Inside, visitors encounter carefully arranged displays of regional fauna, including birds, amphibians, and small mammals that inhabit the Danube basin. The bird section is especially striking, with preserved examples of herons, owls, and rare migratory species that stop in Vojvodina’s marshes. A dedicated area presents insect diversity, showing colourful butterflies, beetles, and dragonflies that reveal the ecological richness of local meadows. The botanical part features native plant species, herbarium sheets, and seeds collected from protected areas. Geological samples—fossils, minerals, and soil profiles—illustrate how Vojvodina’s landscapes were shaped over millennia.
