Group programs and school visits are available by request, with alternative indoor sessions offered during poor weather. The Sternwarte (observatory) on the Gurten is located atop the Gurten hill, Bern’s local mountain, at Gurtenkulm 10, 3084 Wabern bei Bern. This observatory offers a fascinating opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts and families alike to explore celestial phenomena through telescope observation sessions held regularly, especially on Tuesday evenings. It originated from Monte Generoso and was relocated to Gurten, where it is supported by the Migros Culture Percentage and open for public events throughout the year. The Gurten itself, standing 858 meters high, is a popular destination just minutes from Bern city center, accessible by the Gurtenbahn funicular from the Gurtenbahn tram stop. Besides the observatory, the Gurten offers expansive parks, playgrounds, hiking trails, restaurants, and the famous Gurtenfestival, all with panoramic views over Bern and the surrounding region. Visitors can also enjoy the Gurten garden, toboggan runs, open-air theatre in summer, and children’s activities, making it a vibrant spot for both leisure and cultural experiences near Bern.
