The Rose Garden (Rosengarten) in Bern is a tranquil hilltop park offering panoramic views of the city’s UNESCO-listed Old Town and the distant Alps. Originally a cemetery in the 18th century, it was transformed into a public park in 1913 and now features over 200 varieties of roses, 200 types of irises, and 28 rhododendron species. Visitors can stroll among vibrant flowerbeds, relax by the lily pond, or enjoy seasonal displays like cherry blossoms in spring and colorful foliage in autumn. The park is also home to sculptures, including the “Girl with Raised Hair,” and a pavilion with a public reading garden. The on-site Restaurant Rosengarten serves local cuisine and fondue in winter, with a terrace that offers one of the best views in Bern. Whether for a peaceful walk, a romantic photo, or a scenic meal, the Rose Garden is a beloved destination for both locals and tourists.

The Rose Garden (Rosengarten) in Bern is located at Alter Aargauerstalden 31b, 3006 Bern, on a hill east of the Old Town and about a 15-minute walk from the city center. Its elevated position offers panoramic views of Bern’s medieval Old Town, the Aare River, and on clear days, the distant Alps. The garden is home to over 200 varieties of roses, 200 species of irises, and 28 types of rhododendrons, as well as a pond, sculptures, a reading garden, and the popular Restaurant Rosengarten. Nearby, you’ll find the Bear Pit (Bärengraben), the Einstein Museum, and the Zytglogge clock tower, all easily accessible from the garden. The Rosengarten is a tranquil green space ideal for relaxation, photography, and enjoying some of the best views in Bern, while its proximity to the Old Town and major attractions makes it a convenient stop for visitors.
