The Rickmer Rickmers, permanently moored at Hamburg’s Landungsbrücken since 1983, is one of the city’s most beloved maritime landmarks and a floating museum that tells the story of seafaring across more than a century. Built in 1896 at the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven, the three-masted barque first sailed to Asia carrying rice and bamboo before embarking on long voyages to South America in the saltpeter trade. Over the decades, the ship changed names and owners, serving as a cargo vessel, a British auxiliary ship during World War I, and later as the Portuguese Navy’s training ship Sagres, even winning the Tall Ships’ Race in 1958. After being decommissioned, it was saved from obscurity and brought back to Hamburg, where it was restored as a museum ship. Today, visitors can explore the crew and officers’ quarters, the galley, and the impressive engine room, while exhibitions highlight the ship’s four distinct life phases. With its striking green hull and towering rigging, the Rickmer Rickmers remains both a monument to Hamburg’s maritime heritage and a living reminder of the great windjammer era.

Rickmer Rickmers is located at Bei den St. Pauli Landungsbrücken 1a, 20359 Hamburg, moored on the Elbe River waterfront at the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken piers. This historic three-masted steel windjammer, now a museum ship, offers visitors the chance to explore the decks and cabins, along with an onboard restaurant providing impressive harbor views. Nearby are the Cap San Diego museum ship, the bustling St. Pauli harbor area with its ferry terminals, souvenir shops, and seafood restaurants. The famous Reeperbahn entertainment district, the Old Elbe Tunnel, and the prestigious Elbphilharmonie concert hall are within easy walking distance, making Rickmer Rickmers a central maritime attraction in Hamburg's vibrant harbor district.
