MedienHafen is Düsseldorf’s boldest example of urban reinvention, where industrial heritage meets architectural innovation. Once a bustling Rhine port, the area fell into decline by the late 20th century. In the 1990s, the city launched an ambitious redevelopment, inviting world-renowned architects like Frank Gehry, David Chipperfield, and Steven Holl to transform the derelict warehouses into a dynamic business and leisure district. Today, MedienHafen is home to media companies, design firms, restaurants, and luxury apartments. Its most iconic landmark, Gehry’s Neuer Zollhof, features three sculptural buildings with undulating façades that reflect the harbor’s energy. The district retains its maritime character through preserved quay walls and rail tracks, blending old and new.
