The Bismarck Tower in Erfurt is located "Am Tannenwäldchen" in the Steigerwald forest at the southern edge of the city, standing at about 317 meters above sea level. The tower was built in 1901 and is designed by architect Wilhelm Kreis in the "Götterdämmerung" style. While the tower itself is currently not accessible to visitors due to structural damage, the surrounding area includes the serene Steigerwald woodland, which is popular for hiking and nature walks. Nearby you can find the Hotel & Restaurant Am Bismarckturm, which serves guests close to the tower site. The location is somewhat secluded yet reachable by local transport and offers a peaceful retreat from the city hustle, with good views of Erfurt from the wooded hillside surroundings. This spot is also historically significant because Otto von Bismarck himself walked in these woods during his time in Erfurt in 1850.
