The Sexmuseum Amsterdam, also known as the Venustempel (Temple of Venus), is the world's first and oldest museum dedicated to human sexuality. Established in 1985, it is located in a 17th-century building on Damrak, near Amsterdam Central Station. The museum offers an extensive collection of artifacts, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, and recordings, tracing the evolution of sexual attitudes and practices across different cultures and historical periods. Exhibits are organized into themed rooms named after notable figures such as Mata Hari, Oscar Wilde, and the Marquis de Sade. Visitors can explore displays ranging from ancient erotic art to Victorian-era curiosities, as well as wax figures and interactive installations. The museum provides an educational and entertaining experience, shedding light on the diverse expressions of human sexuality. Please note that admission is restricted to individuals aged 16 and over.
