Basílica de San Pedro is one of Córdoba’s most significant Fernandine churches, a monument that blends medieval origins with centuries of artistic devotion. Founded in the 13th century on the site of an earlier Christian temple, it forms part of the group of churches established after the Reconquista, reflecting the architectural transition from Romanesque to Gothic. Its robust stone façade, crowned by a rose window and flanked by a distinctive tower, gives the building a powerful presence in the historic district. Inside, the basilica reveals a warm and solemn atmosphere, with pointed arches, side chapels, and altarpieces that showcase the evolution of local craftsmanship. Basílica de San Pedro is located on Plaza de San Pedro, in the barrio of San Pedro in Córdoba’s historic Axerquía area, a little east of the central core of the old town. The basilica stands a short walk from Plaza de la Corredera and the surrounding traditional streets, with easy access to nearby churches such as San Andrés and La Magdalena, as well as local bars, small shops and residential squares that link this historic neighbourhood to the commercial centre and, further on, the Mosque‑Cathedral and riverside.
