Puerta de Almodóvar is one of the best‑preserved medieval gateways in Córdoba, standing proudly at the edge of the old Jewish Quarter. Dating from the 14th century, it formed part of the city’s defensive walls and once controlled access from the west. Its solid stone structure, flanked by sturdy towers and crowned with battlements, evokes the atmosphere of a fortified medieval city. As visitors pass beneath its pointed arch, they step directly into the winding streets of the Judería, where centuries of history unfold in quiet courtyards and narrow lanes. A statue of the philosopher Seneca nearby reinforces the area’s cultural significance, linking the gate to Córdoba’s Roman and intellectual heritage. Today, Puerta de Almodóvar serves not only as a historical monument but also as a symbolic threshold between the modern city and its ancient heart, offering a striking introduction to one of Córdoba’s most evocative neighbourhoods.

Puerta de Almodóvar stands at the western edge of Córdoba's historic center in Spain, marking the ancient entrance along Calle Cairuán near Paseo de la Victoria and the former Jewish Quarter. This 14th-century gate of Arab origin, rebuilt over Roman foundations and known historically as Bab al-Yawz or the Walnut Gate, features robust sandstone towers with battlements and a barrel-vaulted arch, guarding the path once leading to Almodóvar del Río while overlooking a former Jewish cemetery site. Nearby treasures beckon in this storied enclave. Roman Mausoleum rises moments south within Jardines de la Victoria's serene gardens, evoking 1st-century elite burials. A bronze statue of philosopher Seneca stands sentinel by the gate, with Averroes nearby honoring Córdoba's intellectual legacy.
