Puerta del Puente stands as one of Córdoba’s most emblematic gateways, marking the historic entrance to the city from the Roman Bridge. Although its origins date back to the 16th century, the monument was designed in a classical style that evokes ancient triumphal arches, celebrating Córdoba’s prestige during the Renaissance. Built under the direction of architect Hernán Ruiz III, it was intended to honour King Philip II’s visit and to symbolise the city’s civic pride. The structure features robust stone columns, a grand central arch, and elegant decorative reliefs that frame the passage into the old town. Today, the gate forms a striking visual link between the riverfront and the monumental surroundings of the Mezquita‑Cathedral.
