Largo do Toural lies in the Oliveira, São Paio e São Sebastião parish within Guimarães’ UNESCO-listed historic centre, northern Portugal. Once the first square outside the medieval walls near the main Porta da Vila, it now serves as the city’s bustling heart with 17th-18th century buildings, cafés, shops, and the central statue of D. Afonso Henriques. Directly adjacent stands Basilica de São Pedro on its western edge, alongside Chafariz do Toural fountain 43 meters south, while Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo graces Largo Martins Sarmento 124 meters west. Atmospheric Rua de Santa Maria leads 257 meters northeast to Largo da Oliveira with Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira and Padrão do Salado, with paths to Guimarães Castle and Paço dos Duques covering under 700 meters uphill.
