Parque Verde do Mondego is located along Avenida Inês de Castro on the right bank of the Mondego River in Santa Clara, forming a continuous riverside greenway downstream from Coimbra's historic center. This expansive 400,000m² park, designed by Camilo Cortesão and opened in 2004 as part of the POLIS program, features 4km of pedestrian paths and bike lanes amid lawns, playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, skatepark, picnic areas, and wooden platforms with esplanades overlooking the water. Nearby highlights include the Pedro e Inês Footbridge linking both riverbanks, the striking Pavilhão Centro de Portugal pavilion by Souto de Moura and Siza Vieira, Torre de Anto along the old walls uphill, Mosteiro de Santa Cruz and Baixa district a short walk away, plus easy access to Coimbra A Station, water sports clubs, and trails toward the University of Coimbra hilltop.
