Location

Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra is located at Rua do Observatório S/N in the Almas de Freire area of Santa Clara parish, on the left bank of the Mondego River south of Coimbra's historic center. This modern facility, established in 1951 after relocating from the city center and merging the university's astronomical (1772) and geophysical (1864) observatories in 2013, occupies Alto de Santa Clara hilltop amid green surroundings. Nearby sites include Portugal dos Pequenitos miniature park to the north, Santa Clara-a-Nova Monastery eastward, Pedro e Inês Footbridge and Parque Verde do Mondego upstream along the river, Coimbra A train station, and Santa Clara Bridge connecting across to the Baixa district, Mosteiro de Santa Cruz, and paths up to the University of Coimbra Alta.
