Latgale Zoo

Latgale Zoo is one of Daugavpils’ most distinctive attractions, a compact yet remarkably diverse urban zoo founded in 1989 by local biologists passionate about conservation. Originally created as an educational centre, it grew from a small terrarium into a fully developed zoo specialising in reptiles, amphibians, and exotic invertebrates. Its rainforest‑themed interior, complete with lush vegetation and warm, humid air, offers an immersive experience unusual for a zoo of its size. One of the zoo’s most interesting features is its focus on breeding rare species, including poison dart frogs, tropical lizards, and endangered turtles.
