Ozero Strop, also known as Lake Stropi, is one of Daugavpils’ most popular natural retreats, valued for its clean waters, sandy shores, and peaceful forest surroundings. The lake became a favourite leisure spot in the early 20th century, when locals began using the area for swimming and summer recreation. Over time it developed into an organised public beach, complete with piers, walking paths, and designated swimming zones that attract visitors throughout the warm season. An interesting fact is that the lake is partly of glacial origin, giving it its characteristic clarity and depth. The surrounding Stropi Forest forms a natural buffer, creating a calm microclimate ideal for outdoor activities. In winter the lake transforms into a quiet landscape used for ice fishing and scenic walks. Today, Ozero Strop remains a cherished escape from the urban rhythm of Daugavpils, offering a blend of nature, recreation, and year‑round tranquillity.

Ozero Strop, also known as Lake Stropu or Great Stropu Lake, is a large lake on the eastern side of Daugavpils, surrounded by pine forest and recreation areas a short drive from the city centre. In summer it becomes one of the main local holiday spots, with a long sandy central beach, clear water for swimming and designated areas for sunbathing and picnics. Along the shore runs the Stropu Lake promenade, a landscaped walking and cycling path with benches and viewpoints over the water. Nearby you will find Stropu Forest with marked trails, an adventure park with rope courses and ziplines often called Daugavpils Tarzāns, and an open‑air bandstand that hosts concerts and events in the warm season. The lake area also offers sports facilities, including jogging tracks and spaces for beach volleyball and other activities, making it attractive for both relaxed recreation and active leisure. From Ozero Strop you can easily return to the city to explore further attractions such as Daugavpils Fortress, Dubrovin Park and the historic centre, combining nature with culture in one day.
