Holy Trinity Cathedral

Holy Trinity Cathedral is one of Liepāja’s most significant landmarks, admired for its graceful Baroque‑Classicist architecture and its remarkable musical heritage. Completed in 1758, it originally served the city’s growing Lutheran community and quickly became a symbol of Liepāja’s prosperity as a bustling Baltic port. Its elegant white façade, crowned with a tall tower, has long been a defining feature of the city skyline. Inside, the cathedral is best known for its historic organ, once the largest mechanical organ in the world. Built between 1779 and 1885, it features thousands of pipes and an extraordinary tonal range, attracting musicians from across Europe. Concerts held here remain among Liepāja’s cultural highlights. Another interesting aspect is the cathedral’s layered interior. Over the centuries, it has been enriched with carved wooden galleries, decorative stucco, and refined altarpieces that reflect changing artistic tastes.
