The Stasys Museum in Panevėžys is a small but captivating space dedicated to the life and work of Stasys Eidrigevičius, one of Lithuania’s most celebrated contemporary artists. Known internationally for his posters, book illustrations and surreal, emotionally charged imagery, Stasys has long been associated with Panevėžys, making the museum a meaningful cultural landmark for the city. Inside, visitors encounter a rotating selection of his works—drawings, pastels, photographs and sculptural objects that reveal the artist’s fascination with memory, childhood and the subconscious. His iconic mask‑like faces, often blending humour with melancholy, form one of the museum’s most recognisable visual themes. Many pieces come from the artist’s personal archive, offering an intimate look at his creative evolution. The museum also highlights Stasys’ international career, displaying posters that earned awards across Europe and Asia. Multimedia installations and experimental works show how he moves freely between genres, always maintaining a distinctive poetic style. Educational programmes and creative workshops make the space lively and accessible, especially for younger visitors.
Panevėžys Lithuania
Stasys Museum is a striking contemporary art center located at Respublikos Street 40 in Panevėžys, Lithuania, in the northern part of the city center. Named after internationally renowned artist Stasys Eidrigevičius, one of Lithuania’s greatest living artists, the museum opened on May 31, 2024, after a 10-million-euro investment. It is halfway between Vilnius and Riga and is designed to become an international art destination in the Baltic region. Stasys Museum is just minutes from Laisvės aikštė (Freedom Square), the city’s “singing square,” where the Brass Orchestra “Garsas” often plays live music and where craft workshops and art galleries are concentrated. The nearby Panevėžys Civic Art Gallery, Lithuania’s largest art center in northern Lithuania, is a short walk away at Respublikos Street 3 and is especially known for its ceramic art courtyard and Ceramics Pavilion. Also within walking distance are the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Panevėžys’s main cathedral, and the Senvagė scenic promenade along the old riverbed of the Nevėžis River, the city’s main place for walking and relaxation. The Key Tree sculpture, a popular symbol of Panevėžys, the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre, and the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum are all easily accessible from the museum.
