Church of St. Anne Plzeň

About

Church of St. Anne in Plzeň is a modest yet historically rich Baroque church that once served as the spiritual centre of a small suburban settlement outside the medieval city walls. Built in the early 18th century, it reflects the craftsmanship of local builders who favoured warm proportions, soft curves, and decorative stucco. One of the most interesting facts is that the church survived several urban redevelopments, making it one of the few preserved sacral buildings from Plzeň’s former outskirts. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and calm, shaped by pale walls and gentle natural light. The main altar, dedicated to St. Anne, features expressive Baroque sculpture and gilded ornamentation typical of regional workshops. Side altars display devotional paintings that once accompanied local feast days and processions. Visitors can also see a finely carved pulpit and original wooden pews that retain the character of an 18th‑century parish church. Though small, St. Anne’s offers a rewarding glimpse into everyday religious life in historic Plzeň.
