Brewery Museum

About

The Brewery Museum in Plzeň offers a vivid journey into the origins of Czech beer, housed in a 15th‑century brewing house that preserves the authentic atmosphere of medieval production. One of its most interesting facts is that it stands on the site of the original malt house and hop‑drying rooms, making it the only museum in the world located in a historically certified brewing building. Visitors can trace the evolution of beer‑making from early home‑brewing traditions to the refined techniques that later shaped the world‑famous Pilsner style. Inside, the museum showcases rare brewing tools, wooden vats, and historic barrels, along with interactive displays that explain how water, malt, hops, and yeast transformed Plzeň into a brewing powerhouse. A highlight is the preserved malt kiln, where guests can see how grain was once dried over open heat. The exhibition also includes period tavern interiors, guild artefacts, and original documents that reveal the social importance of beer in the city’s daily life. The museum’s blend of craftsmanship, history, and sensory storytelling makes it an essential stop for anyone exploring Plzeň’s brewing heritage.
