Budova Archa

About

Budova Archa in Hradec Králové is one of the city’s most distinctive modern cultural spaces, created as part of the revitalised former brewery complex. Its name, “Archa” – the Ark – reflects both its curved, ship‑like architecture and its role as a vessel for contemporary creativity. The building stands out with clean lines, generous glass surfaces, and a bright, open interior that contrasts with the surrounding historic structures. Inside, Archa functions as a flexible cultural hub. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions focused on design, architecture, photography, and new media, often highlighting regional talent and experimental projects. The interior layout allows for immersive installations, making each visit different depending on the current programme. A key feature is the multi‑purpose hall, used for talks, workshops, and community events that bring together artists, students, and local residents. The building also houses creative studios and educational spaces, supporting young designers and cultural initiatives. Its connection to the wider Pivovar complex adds to the experience, placing Archa within a lively zone of cafés, galleries, and public spaces.

Location

The Archa building is a newly revitalised complex in Hradec Králové, created from the former Vrbenský barracks on Československé armády Street, close to the wider city centre. It serves as a new branch of the Museum of East Bohemia and is planned as the home of extensive natural science and archaeological exhibitions, transforming a once‑military site into a modern cultural hub. From Archa you can easily reach the historic core of Hradec Králové with its Velké náměstí, White Tower and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, offering classic views over the “Salon of the Republic”. A pleasant walk leads towards the Elbe riverfront with the Hučák small hydroelectric power plant and its exhibition on renewable energy, and further to Jirasek Gardens with the wooden Church of St. Nicholas and viewpoints over the confluence of the Elbe and Orlice rivers. Within this compact radius you can combine a visit to Archa with the main museum building on Eliščino nábřeží, the Gallery of Modern Art and green city parks, creating a full cultural day in Hradec Králové.
