Žižkovy sady is a smaller urban park lying just below the northern terraces of the historic centre of Hradec Králové, along tř. ČSA, under the old town fortifications. It was created in the early 20th century on the site of a former military training ground and is dominated by a statue of Jan Žižka and a central fountain, offering lawns, trees and benches for quiet relaxation close to the city bustle. The park sits directly beneath the historic core, so from its paths you can quickly climb the stairs up to the old town with the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, the White Tower, canon houses and the Marian column on the main square. Within easy walking distance are also the Gallery of Modern Art, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and pleasant routes leading towards Šimkovy Gardens and other green spaces. Žižkovy sady thus forms a leafy forecourt to the “Salon of the Republic”, ideal as a rest stop during a day exploring the architecture and museums of Hradec Králové.
