The Black House (Fekete Ház) is one of Szeged’s most atmospheric historical buildings, instantly recognisable by its dark façade, a result of 19th‑century soot deposits that gave the house its enduring nickname. Today it serves as a key exhibition venue of the Ferenc Móra Museum, offering a more intimate and moody counterpart to the main museum palace. Inside, visitors find a rich blend of local history, bourgeois interiors, and thematic exhibitions. One highlight is the beautifully reconstructed 19th‑century merchant apartment, which reveals how Szeged’s wealthy families lived before the great flood of 1879. Black House in Szeged is a small but important historical exhibition space in the city centre, on Somogyi utca 13, at the corner of Somogyi and Kelemen Street.
