Püspöki Udvarbíróház – Borsos Miklós Állandó Kiállítás

About

The Püspöki Udvarbíróház, home to the Borsos Miklós Permanent Exhibition, is one of Győr’s most intimate and atmospheric art venues. Set in a beautifully restored Baroque manor once used by the bishop’s estate steward, the building provides a fitting backdrop for the refined, poetic world of sculptor and graphic artist Miklós Borsos, one of Hungary’s most distinctive 20th‑century creators. Inside, visitors encounter a carefully curated selection of Borsos’s sculptures, medals, and reliefs. His hallmark style — a blend of classical harmony, modern abstraction, and subtle symbolism — is immediately recognisable. Bronze portrait heads, mythological figures, and lyrical female forms reveal his sensitivity to human expression and proportion. One of the most interesting aspects is Borsos’s mastery of small‑scale works. His medals and plaques, displayed in elegant cases, show extraordinary detail and emotional depth despite their modest size. The exhibition also includes drawings and prints that highlight his versatility across mediums. The manor’s historic interiors enhance the experience: vaulted rooms, period details, and soft lighting create a contemplative atmosphere that suits Borsos’s art. Together, they form a quiet cultural enclave in the heart of Győr.
