Gipsoteca Gianluigi Giudici is one of Lugano’s most intimate artistic spaces, dedicated to the sculptor whose work explored the human form with clarity, discipline and emotional restraint. Set in a quiet villa, the museum preserves Giudici’s plaster models—the essential stage between idea and final sculpture—offering a rare look into the creative process normally hidden from public view. Inside, the most compelling attraction is the plaster collection, where studies of torsos, hands, faces and full figures reveal Giudici’s fascination with anatomy and proportion. These works show the precision behind his marble and bronze sculptures, capturing subtle gestures and expressions that feel almost alive. The portrait series is particularly striking, presenting character studies that blend realism with quiet introspection. Another highlight is the studio reconstruction, arranged with Giudici’s tools, sketches and working materials. It offers insight into his methodical approach—how he built forms, corrected details and refined surfaces. The drawing archive adds depth, showing preparatory lines that map out movement and balance before any plaster was shaped.

The Gipsoteca Gianluigi Giudici is a small sculpture museum in the heart of Lugano, dedicated to the work of the Italian sculptor Gianluigi Giudici (1927–2012), who spent much of his career in Ticino. It is located on the first floor of the Central Park building on Riva Antonio Caccia, just off the lakeside promenade and a short walk from the main railway station and Piazza Riforma. Housed in a modern urban block facing the lake, the Gipsoteca presents around sixty works in plaster, bronze and copper selected from different phases of Giudici’s artistic development. From the museum, a brief stroll leads to the lakeside quays and the Parco Ciani, a large park with subtropical vegetation and walking paths along Lake Lugano. The old town of Lugano, with its narrow streets, shops, cafés and the cathedral of San Lorenzo, lies a few minutes uphill, as does Piazza Riforma, the main square surrounded by arcades and public buildings. Close by are the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura complex, home to MASI and major concerts, and the funicular connecting to the hillside quarter of Città Alta. Boat trips from the nearby landing stage provide easy access to lakeside villages such as Gandria and Morcote, while local transport reaches Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore for panoramic views over the lake and surrounding valleys.
