Sterija National Theatre

Sterija National Theatre in Vršac is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the Banat region, named after the celebrated playwright Jovan Sterija Popović. Founded in 1946, it quickly became a regional center for drama, comedy and experimental performance, continuing the town’s long theatrical tradition that dates back to the 19th century. Its elegant façade, shaped by academic architectural influences, gives the building a dignified presence in the historic center. Inside, the main hall offers a warm, intimate atmosphere with excellent acoustics and carefully restored seating that preserves mid‑century charm. The stage is equipped with modern lighting and sound systems, yet retains elements of older machinery that theatre enthusiasts find fascinating.
