The Albanian League of Prizren Museum is one of Kosovo’s most important cultural and political landmarks, set within a beautifully restored Ottoman‑era complex near the old stone bridge. Founded on the site where Albanian leaders gathered in 1878 to defend territorial rights within the collapsing Ottoman Empire, the museum preserves the atmosphere of that historic moment. Its courtyards, wooden balconies, and traditional architecture offer a glimpse into 19th‑century Prizren, a city long known for craftsmanship and diplomacy. Inside, the main hall displays original documents, maps, and correspondence from the League’s delegates, illustrating how their decisions shaped modern Albanian identity. One of the most interesting exhibits is the recreated meeting room, complete with period furniture and portraits of key figures such as Abdyl Frashëri. Visitors can also explore collections of traditional Albanian costumes, weapons, and household items that reveal everyday life during the League’s era.
Prizren Kosovo
The Albanian League of Prizren Museum sits in the heart of Prizren’s old town at Sheshi i Lidhjes, right beside the river. It’s part of a quiet courtyard complex that once belonged to the larger Gazi Mehmet Pasha buildings, so you find it easily while wandering the historic centre. Just next door stands the Gazi Mehmet Pasha Mosque, also known as the Bajrakli Mosque, with its elegant courtyard and traditional details. A short stroll brings you to the Old Stone Bridge crossing the river, one of the city’s most photographed spots, and from there you’re at Shadervan Square with its lively fountain and cafés. The striking Sinan Pasha Mosque rises nearby, dominating the skyline. A little further uphill the Prizren Fortress (Kalaja) offers sweeping views over the whole town and surrounding mountains — the walk takes about fifteen minutes and is free. The Archaeological Museum, housed in an old hammam, and the Ethnological Museum are both within easy reach in the same compact old-town area. Everything sits close together, so after visiting the League museum you can simply keep walking and take in the rest of Prizren’s historic core at a relaxed pace.
