Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour is one of Prizren’s most serene landmarks, a Catholic sanctuary that reflects the city’s long tradition of religious coexistence. Built in the early 20th century, the cathedral blends modest architectural lines with elegant details inspired by Central European church design. Its pale façade and tall bell tower stand out gently among Prizren’s red‑roofed houses, offering a peaceful counterpoint to the nearby bazaar and fortress hill. Inside, visitors find a bright, harmonious space shaped by arches, wooden pews, and soft natural light. One of the most interesting features is the main altar, decorated with a finely crafted statue of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, a devotion cherished by local Catholic families for generations. The cathedral also preserves several paintings and liturgical objects donated by Prizren’s diaspora, each carrying stories of migration and memory. A small side chapel invites quiet reflection, while the organ loft hosts occasional concerts that highlight the building’s warm acoustics.

Location

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour stands on Papa Gjon Pali II street in the historic centre of Prizren. It’s an easy walk from Shadervan Square along the stone streets of the old town, right in the neighbourhood where the Mother Teresa Museum is also located. Just next to it you’ll find the Mother Teresa Museum itself. A short stroll takes you into the heart of the old town with the Old Stone Bridge over the river, the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the lively Shadervan Square. The Albanian League of Prizren Museum and the Archaeological Museum in the old hammam with its clock tower are both close by in the same compact area. Uphill from here the Prizren Fortress offers wide views over the rooftops and surrounding mountains, only about a fifteen-minute climb. Everything sits within easy walking distance, so after visiting the cathedral you can simply continue exploring the rest of Prizren’s historic core at a relaxed pace.
