Housed in a striking Art Nouveau villa designed by Ferdinand Boberg, the museum was originally the private residence of banker and art patron Ernest Thiel, who curated one of Sweden’s most significant collections of late 19th- and early 20th-century art. Opened to the public in 1926, the gallery showcases masterpieces by Edvard Munch, Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, and August Strindberg, among others. Thielska Galleriet is located at Sjötullsbacken 8, 115 25 Stockholm, in the Kungliga Djurgården area. This elegant museum was originally the home of banker and art collector Ernest Thiel, who donated his extensive collection of late 19th and early 20th-century Nordic art to the Swedish state in 1924. The building itself, designed in 1905 by architect Ferdinand Boberg, offers a cozy and intimate art experience, with natural light enhancing the display of works by artists such as Carl Larsson, Anders Zorn, Bruno Liljefors, and Edvard Munch.
