Tucked away in the heart of Cambridge, the Corpus Playroom is the city’s leading fringe theatre space, owned by Corpus Christi College and managed by the ADC Theatre. Since opening in 1979 in two converted college rooms, it has been a launchpad for bold, intimate productions and a training ground for emerging talent, with alumni including Stephen Fry, Sam Mendes, and Hugh Bonneville. Home to the resident Fletcher Players, the L‑shaped studio hosts an eclectic mix of student-led and community performances, often showcasing new writing alongside inventive reimaginings of classic works. With two shows most nights during term, the Playroom offers an up‑close theatrical experience that thrives on creativity, experimentation, and the energy of its performers. Its blend of heritage and innovation makes it a cherished fixture in Cambridge’s cultural life, where audiences can discover fresh voices and future stars in an atmosphere that is both welcoming and artistically daring.
