Die Adern der Stadt in Bremen is a unique museum dedicated to the hidden infrastructure that powers urban life—electricity, water, gas, and district heating. Located in the historic Wehrdamm substation at Hastedter Osterdeich, the Museum für Netztechnik was founded in 2012 by the association Die Adern der Stadt e.V. with support from swb AG. The 237-square-meter exhibition space reveals what usually remains unseen: switching systems, cables, pipes, and technical components salvaged during maintenance operations. Visitors can explore original equipment from different eras, including rare meters and lighting systems, and access additional information via QR codes. The museum emphasizes Bremen’s supply history and the evolution of network technology over the past century. Though currently closed for renovations, it remains a vital educational site, offering guided tours for school groups and technical enthusiasts. It celebrates the silent systems that sustain city life, making the invisible visible.
