Galerie des Westens (GaDeWe) in Bremen is a producer-run gallery that has been a cornerstone of the city’s independent art scene since 1985. Located in the Walle district at Reuterstraße 9–17, it presents monthly changing exhibitions that highlight a wide spectrum of contemporary art, from painting, sculpture, and drawing to photography, video, installation, and printmaking. The gallery is run on a voluntary basis by artists themselves, ensuring a program that is both experimental and deeply connected to the needs of the creative community. A particular focus lies on giving young and emerging artists the opportunity to showcase their work, often in dialogue with more established positions. Over the years, GaDeWe has gained recognition beyond Bremen through themed group projects and collaborations with galleries across Germany and abroad. The exhibition space, about 80 square meters with an additional cabinet room and stage, is surrounded by artists’ studios, creating a lively hub of creativity.
