Established in 1964 and inaugurated in 1975, the museum features an impressive collection of war relics, artifacts, and exhibits that highlight the country's struggles for freedom and national identity. The exhibits are distributed over four floors, featuring ancient Greek arms and armor, Byzantine military equipment, and modern warfare artifacts, including uniforms, medals, and photographs. The War Museum of Athens is located at Rizari 4, 106 75 Athens, Greece, near the intersection of Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and Rizari Street. Established in 1975, the museum serves as the military museum of the Greek Armed Forces, documenting Greece’s military history from antiquity to modern times. The museum is housed in a Bauhaus-inspired building designed by architect Thucydides Valentis and features exhibitions on major conflicts, including the Greek War of Independence, the Balkan Wars, World War I, and World War II. The museum also showcases artifacts from Alexander the Great’s campaigns, Byzantine military history, and the Greek Expeditionary Corps in Korea. Visitors can explore collections of weapons, uniforms, maps, and engravings, as well as an outdoor display of artillery and aircraft. The museum is easily accessible via public transportation, with Evangelismos metro station located nearby.
