The Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken is one of the most important Baroque churches in Germany and a defining landmark of the city. Commissioned by Prince Wilhelm Heinrich of Nassau-Saarbrücken and completed in 1775, it was designed by architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel as the centerpiece of a grand urban ensemble. The church’s striking sandstone façade, crowned by a tower, dominates the surrounding square, while its interior impresses with harmonious proportions and elegant ornamentation. Despite suffering damage during World War II, the Ludwigskirche was carefully restored and today stands as a symbol of resilience and cultural pride.
