Once part of a vast Moorish bazaar that filled the area with workshops, traders, and the scent of exotic goods, it was rebuilt in the 19th century after a devastating fire. Today its narrow passages, colourful stalls, and lattice‑inspired façades evoke the charm of a traditional souk, offering visitors a glimpse into Granada’s commercial life during the Nasrid era. The street is lined with shops selling crafts, ceramics, textiles, and lanterns, creating a lively blend of history and artisan culture. It lies just steps from Granada Cathedral and the Royal Chapel to the north, with the former Great Mosque site nearby, forming a compact zone of Moorish-era commerce revived after a 19th-century fire.
