Museum of Archaeology D. Diogo de Sousa is located at Rua dos Bombeiros Voluntários in the heart of Braga's historic center, built over the significant archaeological zone of the ancient Roman city of Bracara Augusta. Housed in a modern building opened in 2007 that preserves Roman ruins in situ, it serves as the gateway to nearby excavated sites turned into open-air museums. Just steps away stand landmarks like the Torre de Santiago, Torre do Postigo, and the imposing Sé de Braga cathedral uphill, amid lively pedestrian streets with cafés, the Roman thermal baths remnants, and easy access to Braga's medieval core, Arco da Porta Nova, and the bustling Avenida da Liberdade.
