The Citadel of Dinant is perched atop a rocky spur overlooking the Meuse River in the heart of Dinant, Wallonia, Belgium, dominating the town’s skyline and accessible by cable car from the right bank, a steep 408-step staircase, or parking on the plateau behind. Built between 1818 and 1821 by the Dutch on medieval ruins and Vauban fortifications, it offers panoramic views of the valley. Immediately below lies the striking Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame with its onion-domed belfry, the iconic Charles de Gaulle Bridge lined with giant saxophones, and the bustling riverside quays with shops and cafés.
