Panorama Mesdag in The Hague offers a rare and immersive step back into the 19th century. Housed in a specially designed circular building, it presents Hendrik Willem Mesdag’s monumental 360‑degree painting of the seaside village of Scheveningen as it appeared in 1881. Standing on a central dune-like platform, visitors are surrounded by sweeping skies, rolling waves, fishing boats, and sandy shores that blend seamlessly with real objects in the foreground, creating an astonishing illusion of depth and space. Panorama Mesdag is located just north of The Hague’s historic city centre at Zeestraat 65, 2518 AA, on the route between the city centre and the Peace Palace in the stylish Zeeheldenkwartier district. It sits close to the Peace Palace and its gardens, several embassies and international institutions, and is within easy walking distance of Noordeinde Palace, the Lange Voorhout and Museumkwartier area, as well as tram and bus stops that link directly to Den Haag Centraal and the Scheveningen seaside.
