The Funen Village in Odense is a charming open‑air museum that recreates rural life on Funen as it was in the 18th and 19th centuries. Set among fields, orchards and winding paths, the village features historic farmhouses, workshops, mills and community buildings, all relocated from across the island and restored with great care. Thatched roofs, timber frames and traditional interiors create an authentic atmosphere, while farm animals, gardens and seasonal activities bring the past vividly to life. Visitors can wander through the landscape, meet costumed interpreters on selected days and experience the rhythms of a self‑sufficient farming community. The Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby), Denmark's evocative open-air museum of 19th-century rural life on Funen Island, is located at Sejerskovvej 20 in Odense's Fruens Bøge neighborhood, south of the city center. This expansive site features 25 relocated authentic Funen farmhouses, barns, a windmill, parsonage, ornamental gardens with heirloom fruit trees, livestock, and fields recreating sustainable village existence from the 1700s-1800s, complete with seasonal demonstrations and horse-drawn carriage rides. Nearby, Odense Zoo offers African safari exhibits just 1km east, reachable by river cruise or a scenic 4km walk/bike along the Odense River through Munke Mose park; Forest Lake and Restaurant Kok og Vin provide tranquil green escapes with dining; Dalum Church stands close by. City center attractions like Hans Christian Andersen House, Odense Cathedral, and Brandts Art Museum lie 3-4km north via the pleasant wooded riverside path, boat (30min from Fruens Bøge stop), or bus #110/#111, blending countryside immersion with urban heritage.
