Location

Vikingodden is located at Ollebukta 3 by Tønsberg harbor, a working shipyard and museum where Viking Age history comes alive. Here the Oseberg Viking Heritage project builds full-scale replicas of legendary ships using 9th-century tools and techniques, and visitors can see the finished Saga Oseberg and Klåstad ship, watch new vessels like the Gokstad ship take shape, and even try sailing a Viking longship in summer. The area around Vikingodden puts you at the heart of Tønsberg’s maritime and historic district. Steps away is Brygga i Tønsberg, the lively harbor promenade lined with restaurants, boats, and outdoor stages at Foynhagen. From the wharf you can stroll along the water, enjoy seafood, and catch concerts that fill the harbor with atmosphere late into the evening. Just up from the water is Slottsfjellet, crowned by Slottsfjellstårnet and the ruins of Tunsberg Castle, once Scandinavia’s largest medieval fortress. The Castle Rock Tower gives panoramic 360-degree views over the city, fjord, and islands, while Slottsfjellsmuseet below showcases Viking artifacts, medieval history, whaling, and local art. Nearby you’ll also find Tønsberg Maritime Historic Centre at Tollboden, displaying the city’s proud seafaring and whaling heritage. Haugar Vestfold Kunstmuseum, in the 1921 former Seamen’s School, hosts contemporary art between ancient burial mounds and the old assembly site Haugating.
