The Estonian Literary Museum is located at Vanemuise tn 42, 51003 Tartu, in a handsome 19th-century neo-Renaissance building just south of the city center. Founded as a national research institute, it preserves and studies Estonia’s literary and folkloric heritage. Its five divisions include a vast library with over 809,000 volumes, the Estonian Folklore Archives, the Estonian Cultural History Archives, the Department of Folk Music, and the Department of Folklore. Researchers and visitors can explore manuscripts, rare books, photographs, recordings, and folk materials that document Estonian and Finno-Ugric culture, while the museum also hosts exhibitions, conferences, and guided tours in a building praised for its beautiful facade and scholarly atmosphere.
