Location

Tucked in the heart of Pärnu’s charming Old Town, the Pernau Museum invites visitors to step into Estonia’s rich history. You’ll find it housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century merchant’s house on Aida Street, right in the city’s medieval core. The building itself is part of the story, with thick stone walls and timber beams that echo Pärnu’s Hanseatic trading past. Inside, the museum traces life in Pärnu from the Stone Age to the Soviet era. Its most famous exhibit is the 8,000-year-old “Stone Age woman of Pärnu,” one of the oldest human remains found in Estonia. Other displays cover the town’s rise as a beloved seaside resort in the 19th century, traditional coastal fishing life, and the turbulent 20th century. Interactive rooms and period furnishings bring each era to life. After your visit, the rest of Pärnu is right at your doorstep. A gentle five-minute walk leads to Pärnu Beach, the Baltic’s long stretch of white sand, and the lively Beach Promenade with its fountains and cafes. The Red Tower, a medieval fortification and the oldest building in town, stands nearby. Wander along Rüütli Street to browse galleries and artisan shops, or stop at St. Elizabeth’s Church to admire its baroque spire. For spa heritage, the grand Pärnu Mud Baths building is just a short walk toward the sea.
