The altarpiece and side chapels display a blend of local and Central European artistic traditions, while the vaulted ceiling creates a warm, resonant acoustic ideal for choral music. One of the most interesting details is the church’s dedication: St. Catherine of Alexandria, a symbol of learning and resilience, was a popular patron among merchants and travellers who once passed through Pärnu’s busy port.

Church of Catharina is located at Vee tn 8 in the centre of Pärnu, close to the old town and the main sightseeing area. It is a historic Orthodox church and one of the city’s notable religious landmarks, with a distinctive Baroque appearance and a long connection to Pärnu’s past. The church is easy to combine with nearby attractions on foot. Very close by you can see Tallinna Värav, Pärnu Castle and the old town streets, all of which add to the historic character of the area. St. Elizabeth’s Church and Endla Theatre are also within a short walking distance, so the location works well for a mixed route of architecture, culture and history.
