Pärnu Town Hall is one of the city’s most recognisable civic buildings, reflecting both its Hanseatic roots and later architectural ambitions. The complex actually consists of two adjoining structures: the older 18th‑century Baroque building and the 19th‑century Classicist extension. Together they form a rare example of how Pärnu’s administrative heart evolved as the city grew in importance. The original section, built in the 1790s, once served as the residence of a wealthy merchant family before becoming the seat of local government. Its elegant façade, with tall windows and restrained ornamentation, hints at the prosperity of Pärnu’s trading era. The later extension, added in the 1830s, introduced a more formal, symmetrical style suited to official functions. Inside, the Town Hall has long been a centre of civic life—hosting council meetings, receptions, and cultural events. One of its most interesting historical details is its role during Estonia’s national awakening, when local leaders gathered here to discuss reforms and education.
Pärnu Estonia
Pärnu Town Hall is located in the city centre at Uus tn 4, in the historic heart of Pärnu. It is one of the city’s most important old buildings, with roots in the late 18th century and a later annex added in 1911. The area around the Town Hall is ideal for sightseeing on foot. Nearby you can visit Endla Theatre, Tallinn Gate, St. Elizabeth’s Church, and the old town streets, all of which are close enough to combine in one walk. Valli Park and the central pedestrian area are also nearby, giving the surroundings a pleasant mix of history and green space.
