Smetana Gardens

About

Smetana Gardens in Karlovy Vary form one of the town’s most graceful green promenades, stretching along the Teplá River near the elegant spa colonnades. Established in the late 19th century, the park was later named after Bedřich Smetana, the celebrated Czech composer whose music often evokes the landscapes and spirit of Bohemia. An interesting fact is that the gardens were designed as part of a broader urban plan to create a continuous chain of spa parks, allowing visitors to stroll through nature while moving between therapeutic springs. Inside the gardens, visitors find wide walking paths shaded by mature trees, seasonal flowerbeds, and quiet corners ideal for rest after spa treatments. The park is also home to several small monuments and decorative features that reflect the cultural life of Karlovy Vary. Its riverside location offers gentle views of historic villas and the flowing Teplá, creating a soothing atmosphere that has long attracted writers, musicians, and spa guests seeking calm. Smetana Gardens remain a cherished place for leisurely walks, morning relaxation, and enjoying the refined charm of the spa town.
